FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions

Does the game have swear words?

No. While some of my merch uses the adult word for "crap," the game will never do that. I consciously designed it to be played by kids and families, and made sure not to cross lines into blatant adult territory. There are jokes for both kids and adults.

What is the age range for The Holiest Crap card game?

Officially, The Holiest Crap is for 14+ because... games below the age of 14 require paid legal testing before they can be sold. And for little indie game developers like me, that's just another extra cost to worry about.

But my professional game reviewer @woosung.boardgames personally believes kids aged 10+ can get the hang of it!

Ew! Another game about poop?

Actually, no. The Holiest Crap is about people, not poop, and almost every reference of potty humor is used to make fun of crappy human behavior. The character Li’l Wipey, who is an angry toilet paper roll, represents the unfortunate people who are used and abused to clean up other people’s messes. It’s relatable and funny because you know you’ve been that person. The title of The Holiest Crap is giving an appropriate name to people who are self-righteous or people who think they’re better than you.

How many people can play The Holiest Crap?

The game is for 3-5 players.

How long does it take to play The Holiest Crap?

On average, 30-60 minutes. If it's your very first time, you can expect anywhere between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours. People who regularly play card games and board games usually learn it more quickly. When I taught the game to 4 board game nerds at a local game night (it was the first time playing for all of them), it took 40 minutes to play a full game.

Will you make expansion packs for The Holiest Crap?

I eventually hope to do that, yes. If the game is successful enough to show me that people are interested in more, then I will plan on it. I've got multiple ideas for fun new cards to make the game even more spicy.

Who is The Holiest Crap making fun of?

Yes. Which means I'm making fun of everyone, including you.

Will you make an adult/ NSFW version of your game?

If there's enough interest in this first game, and enough demand for an NSFW version, then there's a good chance I'll make one.

Who is the illustrator for The Holiest Crap? How were the illustrations made?

The illustrations were made by me, the creator of the game, Erik Robinson. They were not made with A.I. Every illustration for the game was made in Adobe Illustrator except for one, which was made in Adobe Photoshop.

You're an independent game designer… How can I help make The Holiest Crap successful?

The best way to help is to tell your friends about the game. Whether you like the messages of the game, the artwork, the jokes, or the gameplay, all of it is helpful. If the game is successful enough, maybe I can turn this into my full-time job.

Is this more than just a card game?

Definitely, yes! The jokes, the message, and even the game mechanics are designed to make us self-reflect about our own crappy behavior. There's even a section in the rulebook that suggests using the game 1) as a teaching tool in therapy, 2) as a way to communicate about triggering behavior in relationships, and 3) as a way to question and critique your own belief systems before criticizing other belief systems.
